The Township Council is the governing body of the township and serves as the legislative branch. As the legislative body, the Township Council plays an integral role in the operations of the government.  Functions of the Council include but are not limited to the review and approval of the Mayor’s Annual Budget, the advice and consent of Mayoral appointments, the enacting of Township ordinances and resolutions, the appointment of the Township Clerk and appointments to the Brick Township Municipal Utility and Housing Authorities.

The Township Council approves all expenditures by the township.

Council President Art Halloran

Art Halloran is a retired President of the Sony Electronics Business Solutions Company, a $500 million business. His experience led him to appreciate and practice strong fiscal responsibility.

Art and his wife live in the Mantoloking section of Brick, where Art serves as President of the Brick Federation of Beach Associations (FOBA). Prior to his election to Council, Art was appointed by Mayor Ducey to the Brick Township Planning Board, the Floodplain Management Committee, and the Hazard Mitigation Committee. He also serves on the Brick Environmental Commission.

Art looks forward to making Brick Better while making sure our government remains fiscally responsible.

Councilwoman Lisa Crate is a 23-year resident of Brick and a teacher in the Jackson Township School District, where she was honored as “Teacher of the Year.”

Lisa also serves on the Ocean County Council of Educators Association and volunteers as a Board Member for Tooney’s Last Resort – a local Animal Rescue Shelter.

Lisa and her husband have two children and live in the Midstreams area of Brick, where they are active members of the Church of Epiphany.

The Township Council works through the committee system to address the varied needs of our community.  Council Committees consist of three members of the Council who work on issues in each committee’s respective areas of concern and then bring recommended actions to the entire council.  The 2016 Committee assignments are as follows:

The Township Council meets on Tuesday evenings in the Municipal Courtroom at 7pm.  All council meetings are open to the public and the public may comment on any matter.  Council meetings can be viewed on BTV on Thursdays at 8pm, Saturdays at 10am, Sundays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 10am or anytime on the web by clicking here.
