Mayor John G. Ducey took the oath of office on January 1, 2014.  Prior to his election as Mayor, John served on the Brick Township Council in 2012 and 2013.  He was selected Council President by his colleagues in 2012.

Mayor Ducey’s accomplishments since 2014 include:

  • Removal of Red Light Cameras
  • Stabilized municipal spending and taxes
  • The first municipal tax cut in more than 30 years
  • Reduced Township’s debt by $18 million over four years
  • Township enrolled in Community Rating System which is lowering flood insurance premiums for residents
  • Creation of Brick Farmers’ Market
  • Renovation of several parks
  • Created a more open and transparent Town Hall

John grew up in Toms River, NJ and attended Monsignor Donovan High School. After high school John went on to obtain a degree in Political Science from Barry University in Miami Shore, FL. After college John received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, FL.

Upon completing his education John returned to Ocean County and began his legal career as a law clerk for The Honorable James D. Clyne, P.J.Cv.P in the Ocean County Superior Court. After the clerkship John accepted a position at the Brick law firm of Mauro, Barry and Prindiville. After eight years John opened his own law practice.

As an attorney John is involved in the Ocean County Bar Association. He is the Past President of the Association and has held the positions of Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Board of Trustee member. He was awarded the Young Lawyer of the Year award by the Association in 2001. He is also a former Board of Trustee member of the New Jersey State Municipal Prosecutors Association as well as a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He is a volunteer certified mediator for the Special Civil Part and has served on the Supreme Court of New Jersey District IIIA Ethics Committee. John currently serves on the Office of Attorney Ethics District IIIA Fee Arbitration Committee.

In the community John was a volunteer basketball coach for the St. Joseph’s CYO high school basketball team. The team was Ocean County champions a number of years as well as the New Jersey State Champion in 2006. He is also very involved in the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore. His volunteer activities include an annual Thanksgiving Food Drive that benefits local family and organizations, and an annual toy drive that benefits Jersey Shore Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center, Monmouth County180 Turnaround and the Madonna House. He is also a member of the Ocean County Running Club.

Mayor Ducey is a proud homeowner and a business owner in Brick. He lives with his wife, Deirdre, and his son Jack. His law office is located on Herbertsville Road in Brick.

    Mayor Ducey hosts regular Facebook Live Town Hall Meetings on the Township Official Facebook Page.  He hosts two a month – one in the afternoon hours and one in the evening hours.  Mayor Ducey answers questions submitted by viewers in real time during the broadcast.
